PROGRAM INFORMATION

Your educational aspiration for entry into policing or another related law enforcement agency is attainable through the Police Foundations program.

During the first year a broad theoretical foundation is provided on human relations and an overview of the criminal justice system. The second year focuses on preparing students for the Constable Selection process. This includes police powers, investigation, evidence and community policing. (Students also achieve certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training from the Crisis Prevention Institute.) During their studies students will utilize similar testing instruments from the Constable Selection process such as Police Analytical Thinking Inventory (PATI); Written Communications Testing (WCT); and Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP). The goal of the Police Foundations program is to provide the student with a well-rounded education that prepares them for a possible career in law enforcement.

Students play a part in first-response situations at Lambton’s Fire and Public Safety Centre of Excellence, which recently underwent an approximate $11 million upgrade and is collaboratively used between police, fire, paramedic and criminal justice students. A Drivewise simulator allows students to experience what it feels like to drive emergency vehicles in various road conditions, all in a safe and controlled environment. Gain volunteer hours with Lambton's student-run Safe Walk program and apply for volunteer opportunities with local police services in traffic control and search and rescue capacities.

NOTE: Any applicant entering this program must determine employment entrance criteria set by individual employers and must ensure fulfillment of those criteria. (A criminal record could be a serious impediment to employment).
