The Lambton College Foundation Launches Inspiring The Future $5 Million Fundraising Campaign with $500,000 Announcement from Shell Canada

Sarnia, ON, April 29, 2010 – The Board of Directors of The Lambton College Foundation were thrilled to announce the launch of the Inspiring The Future $5 Million Fundraising Campaign yesterday.

Joining Andy Brandt, Chair of The Lambton College Foundation was Tony Hanlon, President and CEO, Lambton College and local leaders including Warden Jim Burns, Lambton County, Mayor Mike Bradley, City of Sarnia and other dignitaries.

To help kick off the campaign, Shell’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre announced the largest donation in its 57-year history. Shell is contributing $500,000 to Lambton College’s “Inspiring the Future” campaign.

General Manager, Kerry Margetts is proud of the strong relationship Shell has with Lambton College, “We have recruited many graduates and cooperative education students from this institution over the years, and they have proven Lambton’s faculty and staff has a winning formula for academic success. This contribution from Shell will enhance that.” Margetts says, “Even during difficult economic times, it is important to continue to invest in our community because it is the community that supports us in operating a facility in this area.”

“We are fortunate to have such strong support from Shell,” said Dr. Tony Hanlon, President and CEO, Lambton College. “This half-million dollar gift works directly towards expanding access in our technology programs.”

Lambton College partners, community leaders and the general public celebrated and learned about the College’s vision to inspire the future. Displays that represented the various components of the campaign detailed the plan for community engagement and also educated as to the work that is done at the College, in the Foundation and goals for the future.

Eleanor Roosevelt stated that “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. Joined by Alumni-to-be dedicated to that vision, children from the Lambton College Early Childhood Education Centre, high school students in the School to College to Work Initiative program and current college students helped celebrate the possibilities by unveiling that $2,023,000 has been raised to date of the $5 million goal.
