Lambton College’s on-campus Early Childhood Education Centre is open to the public as a day care and is licensed through the Day Nurseries Act to care for infants (birth – 18 months), toddlers (18 months – 2 ½ years) and Preschoolers (2 ½ years – 5 years). The Centre runs on a basic philosophy that includes learning through positive play; in prepared environments that are children-centered, play-based and developmentally appropriate; emphasized during spontaneous and planned activities; and that encourages self-expression, problem solving, flexibility and respect for self, others and the environment.
The Centre is also used as a teaching facility for the Early Childhood Education program at the college. As a college training facility, the ECE Centre regularly has college students working along-side qualified staff to provide stimulating, well-balanced programming for children.
It is recommended that parents apply early for spaces at the Centre, especially when looking for day care for younger children. Our day care spaces are laid out as follows:
- 6 full-time infant spaces; with 3 children per staff member
- 10 full-time toddler spaces with 5 children per staff member
- 60 full-time/part-time preschooler spaces with 8 children per staff member
Thirty spaces are available for school-aged children during the summer holidays only. School-aged children are assigned 15 per staff member.
