Kitchener, ON, July 9, 2012 – The Lambton College Firefighter Combat Team, made up of entirely new members, had an impressive start during a very successful first Ontario Scott Firefit Championships Regional, held on June 30th and July 1st in Kitchener, Ontario.
The tandem team consisting of Ian Van Reenen and Nelson Bodnar received bronze medals with a time of 1:46. One second off of 1st place gold medal winner alumni Derrek Coccimiglio from Prince Township Fire and 2nd place silver winner alumni Scott McIntyre. A total of 16 Firefighter tandem teams competed from Ontario and Quebec in this relay.
In the Firefit relay, Lambton College finished 6th out of 19 teams with an impressive team time of 4:52.49.
Lambton College now has two more students joining the 90 Second Club of Elite Firefighters in Canada with Ian Van Reenen having a time of 1:33.12 and Nelson Bodnar with a time of 1.37.40. Ian Van Reenen placed 20th out of 117 Firefighters in competition.
Cortland Kolesnikwicz with a time of 1:41.97 and John Bain with a time of 1:46.76 joined the 100 Second Club of Elite Firefighters in Canada.
In the Firefighter team relay, Lambton College got beaten out by a millisecond by Hamilton Fire Department in the quarter finals for the bronze medal round. Sixteen teams competed in this relay.
In the ladies individual, Tabitha Siegfried finished with a time of 3:49.89.
There was a total of 11 Lambton College Alumni competing at this event. Shaun Henderson with Oakville Fire received a gold medal in the Firefit Relay and silver medal in the individual. Scott McIntyre with Stratford Fire received a silver medal in tandem, Danny Folino with Hamilton Fire received a gold medal in Firefighter relay and bronze medal in Firefit relay, and Derrek Coccimiglio with Prince Township Fire received a gold medal in tandem. Lambton College graduates continue to make a name for themselves at competition.
