Alternative Energy Engineering Technician

The Alternative Energy Technician Ontario College Diploma program is designed to provide students with a combination of theory and hands-on skills in solar photovoltaic systems, solar thermal systems, wind turbine technology and geothermal energy. Students will perform sizing and feasibility analysis of solar and wind energy systems by using industry standard software.Students will develop an excellent theoretical and practical understanding of clean and renewable energy technologies and systems and their application in residential environments. The program will focus on clean energy and renewable energy sources and off-grid energy systems.Installation and repair techniques will be taught for the above named technologies. In addition to focused study of clean and renewable technologies, participants will develop excellent foundational knowledge in electrical and building technology concepts that support energy conservation and the shift to sustainable energy solutions.This program provides block transfer into the third year of the Alternative Energy Engineering Technology (ALTE) program. ALTE graduates gain additional knowledge and skills related to other alternative energy technologies such as, biomass energy and fuel cells. ALTE graduates are eligible to enrol in the second and third year of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology program at University of Windsor and other universities based on an individual assessment by these universities of academic achievements.

The Alternative Energy Engineering Technology - Accelerated program (ALTX) is a program designed to meet industries needs for a skilled workforce. It provides the opportunity for a graduate with an Engineering Technology Degree, Engineering Degree or Science Degree in Physics or Chemistry, to earn an advanced diploma in Alternative Energy within a shorter time frame than the regular three-year Alternative Energy Engineering Technology (ALTE) program. The ALTX program is delivered in four terms with an optional summer co-op term compared to the ALTE program which is six terms with an optional co-op term.This program is designed to provide university graduates with a combination of theory and hands-on skills in solar photovoltaic systems, solar thermal systems, wind turbine technology and geothermal energy. This certificate program appeals to both part and full-time students interested in the Bookkeeping field. The certificate is designed to provide a base of understanding and skills that would lead towards the bookkeeping or accounting fields. The program has flexible course delivery to meet the varied needs of the student audience. Many of the online offerings are equivalent to Lambton College courses. The college maximizes the number of courses offered in the in-class format. . The program is comprised of twelve courses that include both theory and computer application.The courses meet the academic requirements of the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CIB), leading to certification as a Certified Bookkeeper. Bookkeeping students are also to be made aware of the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (IPBC) to support their future vocation. Students are advised to assess the merits of the services and supports available through a professional association.

Prepare yourself for the world of business with a strong foundation in essential business knowledge and skills including key management areas of marketing, human relations and accounting. Students gain essential knowledge in selling, marketing research, communications and new media and will combine this knowledge with up-to-date technology skills. Students develop personal skills in presentations, teamwork and time management by working on important projects with other students and community partners.  Students may decide to transfer their credits to the three-year Business Administration – General or Marketing program at the end of first or second year.Students entering this program in September 2013, are entering a Mobile Learning program. To be able to participate in the mobile learning experience, it is essential that all entering students have a mobile device. This program requires that entering students have a laptop with wireless capability. Software and courseware required for coursework will be available virtually from the college through the internet. Some students may prefer the convenience of having the required software loaded onto their laptop. A laptop with appropriate computing power will be required. The Chemical Laboratory Technician  program will produce technically skilled problem-solvers with well-developed communication skills. Graduates will be prepared to assume entry-level positions in a variety of industrial, government or consulting organizations. The course of study includes hands-on introductions to Laboratory Analyzers, Organic Synthesis and Biochemical and Microbiological techniques as well as an overview of key underlying theoretical principles.Graduates calibrate, operate and maintain laboratory equipment; assist in the set up and conduct of chemical and biological tests and experiments; assist in developing and conducting sampling and data analysis; and record and compile experimental or analytical results for later interpretation.

Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technician

Upon graduation students will possess skills in equipment operation, process control and troubleshooting, with a background of chemical, mathematics, physics, electronics, instrumentation and various industrial processes. They will also study human interaction skills, report writing and occupational health and safety. Graduates will comprehend regulations pertaining to environmental and health and safety legislation. In addition, graduates will have had the academic preparations to write Operating Engineering examinations. At each level, the elements of safe practices and awareness of personal responsibilities are stressed. Students will perform practical requirements in the state-of-the-art facilities within the Centre of Excellence for Process Manufacturing (CEPM). Refer to CEPM page for more information. Communicative Disorders Assistant

This one-year, three-semester program is designed for students who have completed a diploma, degree or equivalent program, and who wish to work in a supporting capacity with a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist. This program will prepare graduates to conduct programming with clients/patients after assessments from a professional Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist have been completed, in order to determine the best treatment goals. In-class curriculum is supported through hands-on training in the newly-developed audiology lab as well as practical experience working in the sound booth and with testing equipment.Students in this program participate in two seven-week placements; these placements are province-wide and students should expect to relocate during their placement terms.

Computer Networking Specialist

This 35-week program will prepare students to install, maintain, manage, design and enhance computer networks. Curriculum also prepares students to pursue CompTIA A+ and the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) Server Administrator and Enterprise Administrator certifications. Please note: additional prep time and fees will be required.Class sizes enable individualized instruction by a faculty of professionals. This hands-on program places strong emphasis on preparing students with the skills they need to start a new career. This program is made up of 11 modules that can be completed as a whole or can be completed as stand-alone modules. A ten-week industry based co-op placement is a necessary component for graduation.Please Note: This program is not OSAP eligible. Every day, society increases its dependence on computer technology. A computer does nothing without software, which is the detailed sets of instructions telling the computer exactly what to do. Computer Programmers, often referred to as Software Developers, are the key people shaping the solutions of today and tomorrow.The Computer Programmer (CPRO) program is a two-year (four-semester) Ontario College Diploma program, with an optional co-op component, that prepares students with highly marketable skills in the high-tech industry of software development and database management. The CPRO curriculum emphasizes the study of Internet technologies in the areas of client and server-side programming, mobile development, the design and maintenance of database systems, system design methodologies, and the Linux operating system. Some of the current technologies include HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery, JSON, XML, PHP, Oracle and Java. In addition to computer programming skills, employers require graduates to have sound business awareness. CPRO students develop skills in mathematical applications, presentation and written communications, business law, project management, and team dynamics needed to be successful in the business world. Graduates are proficient in various aspects of modern Web applications from the underlying server technology to the implementation of database transaction systems and mobile development. They have the ability to use problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze business requirements and design, develop, and implement "real-life" database-driven enterprise Web applications.

Construction Carpentry Techniques

Build a better future for yourself in a hands-on and practical learning environment. Lambton College’s Construction Carpentry Techniques program utilizes current technology, modern equipment and has a strong focus on eco-friendly building products and construction materials. As a graduate you will possess significant experience working in the 6,500 sq. ft. shop (located in the Lambton College Skilled Trades Training Centre) as well as in an 1,800 sq. ft. teaching house that is reconstructed annually by students in the program. This hands-on learning, combined with in-class training, will provide students with the skills necessary to enter the residential construction and renovation sector. Framing, layout, roof construction, stairs and foundations will be taught in detail as well as the fundamentals of calculating construction and labour costs.Students will also have the opportunity to attend annual trade shows and visit local job sites in the community where they will have the opportunity to network and learn from local industries. Successful graduates are exempt from the in-school basic level of the General Carpentry Apprenticeship Program.

If you strive for a career supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, then Lambton College’s Developmental Disabilities certificate program is for you. This program has industry-focused training courses and promotes the use of modern technology. Students utilize electronic tablets in order to demonstrate accessible communication tools for non-verbal communicators. Three new physical limitation suits have enabled students to actively experience the effects of aging and limited mobility. Additional instructional aides include interactive books, timers, adaptive toys and more.Graduates have the skills and knowledge required to assist individuals with intellectual and/or related developmental disabilities and accumulate approximately 200 hours of placement time. Graduates may pursue further education as Developmental Services Workers, utilizing existing transfer opportunities.Students entering this program in September 2013, are entering a Mobile Learning program. To be able to participate in the mobile learning experience, it is essential that all entering students have a mobile device. This program requires that entering students have a tablet with wireless capability. In order to gain maximum benefit from the program and match current field use, it is recommended that the tablet be an iPad.

Digital Photography

Look through the viewfinder and see a career that is ascreative and inspired as you are!The days of darkrooms and 35mm film have given way to the fast-paced and ever expanding realm of digital photography. Students will prepare for this exciting and expanding career using modern digital photographic equipment in a state-of-the-art photography studio. Learning is further enhanced by supporting a laptop-based environment, which facilitates learning and reflects the environment of digital photography (students must own their own approved laptop and camera.)Curriculum will encompass a broad range of topics including writing for media, digital darkroom, web fundamentals and portfolio development.This is the first fully-hybrid program at Lambton College (a combination of both online and in-class), offering greater flexibility and encouraging self-directed learning.Project work takes place with an interdisciplinary approach including Hair, Esthetician, Fashion Business and Culinary programs. Early Childhood Education

This two-year program educates students to work effectively in a variety of settings with young children in order to nurture childhood development and maintain healthy relationships with their families. Students are introduced to both the theory and practice of Early Childhood Education. Traditional in-class lessons are reinforced through modern teaching technology (i.e. document camera, smart board, hands-on workshops, etc.) A video lab offers students the opportunity to observe children in Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education Centre - an on-campus lab school for the program. The Parent and Professional Resource Centre offers valuable resources for activities, research and professional development.Students graduate with 600+ hours of practical experience in settings which include infants and children up to age 12. All students enjoy six placements including at least one in Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education Centre. As a college training facility, students work with qualified staff to provide a stimulating, well-balanced program for children.

Students graduate with a recognized Ontario College Diploma and over 600 hours of practical hands-on experience while training at The Spa at Lambton, as well as comprehensive in-class education from qualified, experienced instructors. This Board of Governors certificate program will provide students with the base knowledge and skills required by the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI). There are additional requirements leading to certification and students are advised to confirm the provincial requirements for Home Inspectors. Please know that the cost of the courses do not include the cost of course manuals. Each course requires the Carson Dunlop and Associates manual, which is approximately $230.00 per course. The following courses can be taken in any order with the exception of: CSCM-3890 Heating Inspection I and CSCM-3900 Heating Inspection II.Please Note: All courses are available on a full or part-time basis and are offered online.

Tourism is the world’s fastest growing sector; in Canada alone there are 1.66 million people employed in tourism-related occupations with a projection of 1.9 million by 2015. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program will prepare you for this demanding and exciting career with a focus on active learning and industry-specific experience. Students will be taught the framework to become employed within the hospitality and tourism field in a management/supervisory capacity and will graduate with an extensive knowledge of this field, allowing them to gain entrance in a variety of roles upon graduation. Graduates work in various areas including event planning, sales, destination marketing organizations, local tourism operations, lodging and food and beverage. Students will enjoy smaller class sizes and the individual attention from dedicated and qualified faculty members. Active learning, simulations, and hands-on applications are some of the methods employed to develop skills. The Information Technology Professional (ITP) program is a two year (four semester) program where students gain highly marketable skills in computer networking and systems administrative support. The program enables students to become proficient in the practices and techniques used in the management of modern IT networking infrastructures including wired and wireless networks. Throughout the program, students will gain proficiency in Windows operating systems, virtualization technologies, Windows Server administration, disaster recovery, and the configuration of networks and network services, security from desktop to enterprise. The ITP program creates a unique, stimulating learning environment in which students can safely master current workplace business requirements, resulting in a smooth transition from education to employment. Opportunities are provided to learn operating systems, business application deployment and networking technologies. Instructional methodology across all courses integrates discovery – learning techniques, real-life simulations and hands-on applications. Students apply their acquired knowledge and skills to industry-based cases, simulations and projects. In addition, students will expand their business and leadership skills through participating in three collaborative team projects and co-op in the final term. Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technician

With the increase in use of computerized equipment across all major industry sectors, the need for qualified instrumentation and control engineering technicians is evident. The Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technician program provides the necessary training and technical hands-on skills to operate and maintain control systems that incorporate digital, pneumatic and hydraulic processes. Instruments are used in the industry to measure and transmit signals to control the quality of products in petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food processing plants. They are also used in controlling environmental conditions in a variety of industrial and commercial buildings. Within the program, students will acquire the technical skills and knowledge to carry out maintenance, make a diagnosis, configure, calibrate and maintain measurement and indicating instrumentation (pneumatic, analog, digital, etc.) in a variety of replicated industrial settings. Students will enhance their in-class training through hands-on learning in Lambton’s Centre of Excellence for Process Manufacturing which contains complex lab and pilot plant facilities. This Centre duplicates a real-life manufacturing environment and the technologies developed can easily be scaled-up and transferred to the actual operating unit.

Law clerks play a vital role in today’s modern law offices. This two-year program prepares students to work closely with lawyers and perform a variety of tasks that support the practice of law. During the first year, students will embrace an active-learning environment. If you have an aptitude for mechanical applications and enjoy problem solving then the Millwright – Mechanical Technician (MTIM) program is what you are looking for. This program teaches the skills necessary to install, troubleshoot and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment critical to the operation of an industrial plant or facility.The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) recognizes MTIM as a co-op/diploma program with dual qualifications. It meets the standards of a Mechanical Technician program and it exceeds the standards of the in-school training requirements of an Industrial Millwright apprenticeship program. While enrolled, eligible students are sponsored as apprentices by the Industrial Education Cooperative (IEC). Graduates have the choice to seek employment as a mechanical technician or millwright apprentice.In addition to traditional classroom training, the program includes numerous practical hands-on labs and projects performed in one of many shop areas, including: machining, welding, rigging and hoisting, machinery installation, assembly, disassembly, alignment and more. Experienced faculty provide further training and assistance with blueprint reading, pumps, valves, compressors, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, lubrication and a variety of power transmission components. Technician level courses include materials science, preventive and predictive maintenance (vibration, balancing, NDE), project management, CAD, Responsible Care, communications, mathematics and electronics/electricity. Students who are in good academic standing during the first two terms of the program qualify for a possible four-month co-op placement. Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) testing is required. Students study in the paramedic lab on a weekly basis and in Lambton’s Human Simulation Lab, which features high fidelity mannequins that can breathe, talk, and produce vital signs. Through the use of the DriveWise Simulator, students experience what it feels like to drive emergency vehicles in varied road conditions, in a safe and controlled environment. This includes research and development facilities, a third party insurance company, research hospitals, Faculty of Pharmacy, and a verterinary compounding facility. Traditional in-class instruction is enhanced through teamwork, role-playing activities, guest speakers and innovative lessons. A fully equipped community/hospital lab provides students with hands-on experience dispensing medications, compounding pharmaceuticals and developing aseptic techniques.Students will complete two unpaid four-week work placements under the supervision of a pharmacist/technician during semester four: one in a retail/community pharmacy and one in a hospital pharmacy setting. These placements are arranged by the program coordinator.The Pharmacy Technician program at Lambton College has been awarded the status of Full Accreditation by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs for a five year term from 2013 to 2017.

Your educational aspiration for entry into policing or another related law enforcement agency is attainable through the Police Foundations program.During the first year, a broad theoretical foundation is provided on human relations and an overview of the criminal justice system. The second year focuses on preparing students for the Constable Selection process. This includes police powers, investigation, evidence and community policing. (Students also achieve certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training from the Crisis Prevention Institute.) During their studies, students will utilize similar testing instruments from the Constable Selection process such as Police Analytical Thinking Inventory (PATI); Written Communications Testing (WCT); and Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP). The goal of the Police Foundations program is to provide the student with a well-rounded education that prepares them for a possible career in law enforcement. In every Canadian province and territory, only certified power engineers are permitted to operate such equipment. This program prepares candidates at the 4th Class level which is also the requirement for entry into the 3rd Class level of the Power Engineering Technology - Chemical (PETC) program. Advances in technology and evidence-informed practice are integrated throughout the program.Students within this program benefit from hands-on experience working in both lab and clinical settings. Lambton’s facilities include a human simulation lab, where students work with mid and high-fidelity mannequins that can breathe, talk, produce vital signs and simulate the birthing process. Hospital and community placements help students to form a relationship with clients, and solidify their critical thinking skills and professional nursing practice.  This program is a Mobile Learning pilot program.Students entering this program in September 2013, are entering a Mobile Learning program. It is essential that all entering students have a mobile device in order to participate in the mobile learning experience. This program requires that entering students have a mobile device (smartphone, tablet or laptop) with wireless access to the internet. Students will need access to a personal computer, either a desktop or a laptop, with required software. This access is provided on-campus by the College. Some students may prefer the convenience of their own laptop computer with wireless connectivity to the internet to access the required software provided virtually by the College. Some students may also prefer to have the required software loaded onto their laptop. Additional laptop computing power will be required. If your ambition is to run your own renovation company or to gain employment in a successful construction company, this accelerated program is for you.  In three semesters, students cover advanced finishes, decks and porches, stamped concrete, alternative framing systems as well as additional components to renovation construction with an emphasis placed on eco-friendly building practices. Through hands-on projects utilizing Lambton’s 6,500 sq. ft. shop and 1,800 sq. ft. teaching house, reconstructed annually by students, theory is applied on a daily basis. Training is safety-based and business-focused. Courses in computer estimating and project management are key to the well-rounded education offered in this program.
