PROGRAM INFORMATION
This Board of Governors certificate program will provide the skills to function safely and competently in a processing department or a surgical suite in acute care hospital settings. This certificate program equips a Sterile Supply Processing Technician to decontaminate, disinfect, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and store sterile supplies and reusable patient care equipment. Training is broad-based to ensure transferability of knowledge and skills to other tertiary care settings and includes a supervised preceptor clinical placement involving hands-on experience in a processing department. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSO.S.S.D. or equivalent Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes and be out of secondary school for at least one year. Mature applicant testing is available in the Counselling Department. The test(s) will demonstrate equivalency in required admission subjects. Medical Terminology must be completed before enrolling in the Sterile Processing courses. The Sterile Processing courses must be completed separately in sequential order as listed below in the course list. Students are required to arrange their own field placement opportunity. Please refer to the Other Information section of this program page for “Passport to Placement” procedures. The field placement cannot commence until College and Host Employer approvals are received.
