
ESL Program
Program Description
This English as a Second Language (ESL) program focuses on improving listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for students currently living in an English-speaking culture. The focus is of the program is ongoing improvement of communicative competence, proficiency in listening and speaking, and developing confident self-directed learners operating within the culture of North America. Curriculum includes attention to pronunciation skills to increase comprehension of, and facility in, Standard Canadian English. Discussions, group work, role-playing, and presentations are some of the methods that will be used to facilitate learning.
Activities will provide students with opportunities to communicate effectively in the broad range of situations encountered while immersed in North American culture. Writing assignments will consist of exercises, case study responses, and other writing tasks determined by the instructor. Newspapers, magazines, texts and audiovisual materials will be incorporated into the curriculum. Students will have user privileges in on-campus computer labs for writing, research and e-mail while registered in the program.
TOEFL Requirements
TOEFL scores are not required for participation in our ESL program. Our own English placement testing will be administered to each student at the start of the ESL program.
Start Dates
Lambton College offers continuous enrolment in this program. Most students start in September, January or May of each year.
Upon successful completion of ESL studies, students may choose to continue your studies in one of Lambton’s post-secondary programs. Students must meet individual program admission requirements in order to be considered for a post-secondary program.
Tuition Fees
$5,000.00 CAD – 15 Week (Four-Month) Program
Student fees are subject to change.
Program Fees are due two months prior to starting the ESL program.
How To Register
Complete the Application Form – this form is only required if you are planning on taking the ESL Program ONLY. If you are planning on taking both the ESL program and a post-secondary program refer to the How to Apply section of our website.
Pay the Application Fee – this $200.00 Application Fee is non-refundable and can be paid by certified cheque, money order, MasterCard, VISA, electronic bank transfer (Canadian funds) or cash (in-person only). Please Note: If the wire transfer is not in the name of the student, you must inform the International Student Office, by e-mail (international@lambtoncollege.ca), of the name used for the transfer in order to the college to properly track your payment.

Receive Letter of Acceptance – A letter of acceptance will be mailed to you once your application form and application fee have been received.
