Energy Production & the Environment
AET-2002

The current global energy consumption contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, ground-level ozone (smog) formation and environmental deterioration. Burning fossil fuels for electricity generation and transportation applications is the major cause of the aforementioned adverse effects on the environment. This course deals with both renewable and non-renewable sources of energy and their impacts on the environment with emphasis on renewable sources of energy. Students will obtain a broad understanding of current resources and technologies, their limitations, impacts on natural habitats, associated costs and practicality. The feasibility of future energy sources and technologies will also be discussed.
